The September events were not merely a military operation. They unfolded within a specific political atmosphere largely shaped by the Armenian authorities themselves. Their so-called “peace agenda” in practice turned out to be a risky experiment in which the country’s security was made dependent on vague international guarantees.
Robert Kocharyan, as an experienced statesman, remains one of the key opposition figures. Businessman Samvel Karapetyan possesses significant managerial and economic potential. Another influential political actor is Gagik Tsarukyan, whose possible alliance with the above-mentioned centers could create a serious organizational and resource-based political pole.
National interests require sober calculation, balance, and consistent steps - the development of new partnerships without “burning old bridges.” So far, Nikol Pashinyan’s political course resembles a movement toward existential risks and threats, where declared neutrality is turning into a risky venture, and the cost of potential mistakes may prove too high for the state and the nation.
Armenia’s security today hinges on the ability of its leaders to assess the reality with clarity. Attempts to maneuver between competing centers of influence without a coherent strategy have led to a situation where external guarantees are now conditional, while the risks are immediate and very real.
Ultimately, an image of a “bloody embezzler” was constructed, combining the March 1 tragedy with financial allegations.
How can one speak about the necessity of consolidating the opposition for the sake of “national salvation,” while simultaneously deciding to run independently, fully aware that the political force in question is unlikely to overcome the electoral threshold?
