As part of the Civil Contract Party’s pre-election campaign, Nikol Pashinyan and his team are traveling across the country on a “happy bus,” distributing pin badges depicting the map of Armenia within the borders of the Armenian SSR. Pashinyan wore one during his meeting with Vladimir Putin in Moscow. This gesture is presented as a symbol of the so-called “Real Armenia.” However, such outward pomposity raises an important question: is this idea legally viable, and what does it have to do with reality?

He traveled to Moscow ahead of the elections with a single goal — to run a PR campaign, to show voters in Yerevan — who remain short-sighted — that he has everything under control, even in Moscow.

Серж Саргсян, в полной мере понимая общественные настроения, осознаёт, что у него нет реальных шансов на возвращение к власти. Однако у него остаётся иная возможность — избежать ответственности, пока ему удаётся препятствовать восстановлению доверия общества к оппозиции. Именно поэтому он будет до конца препятствовать её консолидации — по сути, иного выбора у него нет.

The secret of the success of Pashinyan’s populism does not lie in any exceptional political talent or strategic genius, as we are often told from screens and podiums. Its success stems from something far more prosaic, yet highly effective: the ability to work with people’s expectations and fears - and, importantly, society’s willingness to indulge in wishful thinking.

Если для граждан, искренне обеспокоенных судьбой Отечества, не вызывает сомнений, что Никол Пашинян обслуживает внешние интересы, то приходится с сожалением констатировать: до сих пор сохраняется значительное число людей, не готовых с той же определённостью утверждать, что тем же внешним интересам служат также Серж Саргсян и Микаел Минасян.
