Taking into account the involvement of Armenia’s third president and his son-in-law, Mikayel Minasyan, in facilitating the 2018 “velvet revolution,” there is reason to believe that Serzh Sargsyan has been using Nikol Pashinyan to carry out the commitments made to Turkey in 2009 under the so-called “football diplomacy.”
During the 44-day war of 2020, as well as before and after it, numerous interviews, public speeches, and social media posts by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, his spouse Anna Hakobyan, and President of the Artsakh Republic Arayik Harutyunyan contained information that qualified as military and state secrets.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, in his comments to journalists, effectively accused the Armenian authorities of betraying Artsakh and surrendering it. Notably, Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan did not refute Lavrov’s claims.
The parliamentary factions of Nagorno-Karabakh did not initiate Harutyunyan’s resignation. Moreover, neither former presidents Arkadi Ghukasyan and Bako Sahakyan - who are currently imprisoned alongside Harutyunyan - nor any other political figure had called for his resignation.
Why did Artsakh fall? Because by that time, Armenia had been ruled for six consecutive years by a group of loudmouthed liars and political amateurs. There was simply no alternative.
Pashinyan is crossing the red line between political maneuvering in the national interest and the outright betrayal of national interests.
In that document, the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh’s status was placed in parentheses—a sort of “gentlemen’s agreement,” implying that the final status of Nagorno-Karabakh would be determined later through negotiations between the parties.
“Anna Hakobyan holds no official position—not even that of First Lady—and had no right to be at the command point, especially looking at what you described as highly classified maps. I’m deeply concerned about this as well,” he added.
