Artur Hambardzoumyan: Silence Tantamount to Crime

,
Артур Амбарцумян

Artur Hambardzoumyan sharply criticized representatives of the Mass Media and parliamentarians for failing to raise issues of critical national and public importance. Hambardzoumyan explicitly equated such silence with a crime, comparing it to Omertà, the Sicilian Mafia's code of silence and non-cooperation with authorities and law enforcement. He characterized this code of silence as a form of mutual cover-up of crimes. Specifically, Hambardzoumyan raised the following pressing issues that journalists and parliamentarians continue to ignore:

  1. Is it true that Armenian servicemen can only access certain combat positions on the sovereign territory of Armenia via Azerbaijani checkpoints and after being subjected to relevant searches? Is it true that Armenian servicemen are required to keep a limited quantity of cartridges and are prohibited from carrying any weapons other than automatic rifles to the posts?
  2. Why did Serzh Sargsyan appoint Georgy Kutoyan as Director of the National Security Service in violation of the law?
  3. The total value of loans issued in Artsakh reached 800 million USD, and the resulting indebtedness was subsequently written off. Who were the recipients of those loans?
  4. Who sold the HPPs in Artsakh to Azerbaijan and then received compensation from the government in Armenia? Dozens of millions of U.S. dollars are in question, aren’t it?
