Pashinyan's Real Goal Is to DISSOLVE AND DESTROY ARMENIAN APOSTOLIC CHURCH

July 24, 2025. Tatev Hayrapetyan writes on her Telegram Channel:

“I propose comparing Nikol Pashinyan’s plans from June 11 and July 23 to destroy the Armenian Apostolic Church. On June 10, he called for ‘effective steps to liberate the Catholicosate of the Holy Etchmiadzin and organize new elections for the Catholicos.’ Some naïve people might think his struggle is directed only against the Catholicos, and that his concerns relate to the Catholicos’s behavior or other internal issues. However, yesterday, Pashinyan went even further and made his true intentions clear.

So, he proposes replacing the Catholicos of All Armenians with ‘any married clergyman.’ Following that, he plans to draw the Church and clergy into lengthy, fruitless scholastic debates over the text of an ‘Armenian Charter.’ Only after this, does Pashinyan intend to hold a new election for Catholicos — after personally reviewing the ‘conduct of all candidates’ by methods known only to him. Hayrapetyan concludes that Pashinyan’s post of July 23 leaves no doubt about his real objective — to dissolve and destroy the Armenian Apostolic Church, an act that would deal a devastating blow to one of the most vital pillars of Armenian national identity.”

A separate issue worthy of analysis is the selection of ‘the organizational group’ according to the established ‘criteria’ and the choice of its leader. Fully aware of how practically inapplicable these criteria are, Pashinyan nonetheless believes he will be able to find the candidates he seeks (July 23), claiming it will happen ‘with the help of God,’ ‘by intuition,’ and ‘by the logic of checking through communication’ (June 10). As for the leader, there can be no alternative: it will be the prophet of all Armenians,’ since only he could allow himself such a mystical and irrational statement. ‘It is clear,’ Pashinyan declares, ‘that by saying I will lead the “Holy Patriarch” movement, I must first and foremost meet those criteria myself. Therefore, if I say I will lead the “Holy Patriarch” movement, it means I meet all those criteria.’

Bravo! What a mockery of the human mind! This idea cannot be analyzed rationally — it is pure sophistry, worthy of inclusion in a database of inadmissible mental manipulations and logical fallacies.

I believe it is now clear and evident that, before the eyes of the Armenian people — perhaps hoping for the support of the more naïve segments of society who have fallen under the influence of such manipulative propaganda — the government is attempting to dismantle the Armenian Apostolic Church, deliberately provoking public unrest and confrontation, engaging in illegal and unconstitutional actions, and inflicting irreparable harm on the international reputation of our country and its statehood. Who stands to gain from all this? Think for yourself…”
