At a meeting with editors of the country’s print media on February 5, 2020, Artur Vanetsyan stated that he had known Mikael Minasyan— the former Deputy Chief of Staff of the President and Armenia’s former Ambassador to the Vatican (Serzh Sargsyan’s son-in-law)— for a long time.

“We have never been friends, but we had a normal relationship. The last time I met him was while I was serving as Director of the National Security Service (NSS). I did so with the knowledge and on the order of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan,” Vanetsyan said.

Mikael Minasyan later confirmed this statement.
