How Nikol Pashinyan Deceived the Armenian People: Episode 3
On December 16, 2020, in an interview with RFE/RL Armenian Service, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated:
“By the way, I forgot to answer the following important question, because by the last day, by the day before the last day, there was a common assessment that war would not break out.”
When asked by the RFE/RL host who gave such an assessment, Pashinyan replied:
“We, also military and political bodies, institutions did not assess the likelihood of war as high by the very last day.”
Once again, Pashinyan shamelessly misled the public, for during the very heat of the 44-day war, on October 14, 2020, he had made the opposite statement:
“The war against Artsakh was not unexpected for us. We knew, and we were expecting it. The question was when and from where the enemy would attack.”
Furthermore, the former Armenian ambassador Mikayel Minasyan claims that 26 days before the outbreak of the 44-day war, Armenian authorities had received a secret document from the CSTO warning of the impending war, its nature, as well as a proposal to apply for assistance under a preventive regime.
