You are Our Grief

08.10.2025. GOLOS ARMENII newspaper reports:

Nikol Pashinyan is quite the character, isn’t he? Tragic and comical all at once. Furious after the latest press conference of Robert Kocharyan...

But why furious? We don’t have an answer to that. Still, whatever it is, it sounds like something you’d only say in a fit of rage, or maybe pure hysteria: “Can you imagine that the three former leaders who allegedly won the war, allegedly saved Karabakh, allegedly the greatest negotiators of all time, are too scared to come and debate me?”

He’s referring to Levon Ter-Petrosyan, Robert Kocharyan, and Serzh Sargsyan...

WHAT’S THE DEAL, MR. PASHINYAN? WHAT’S BEHIND THIS HYSTERIA? It’s common knowledge that Armenia and Artsakh won the First Karabakh War. If you don’t believe it, just ask Aliyev — he’ll confirm it for you. Who was the president of Armenia? Levon Ter-Petrosyan. The president of Artsakh? Robert Kocharyan. Who was the Commander of the Self-Defense Forces and later the Defense Minister of Armenia? Serzh Sargsyan. So what’s the problem?

Wasn’t Karabakh Armenian under Levon Ter-Petrosyan? It was. Under Robert Kocharyan? It was. Under Serzh Sargsyan? It was. So what’s all this hysteria about?

Under whose leadership did Karabakh cease to be Armenian? Who was in charge when Artsakh — Armenian for centuries, millennia even — stopped being Armenian? That would be you, Pashinyan.

Is this what’s causing the hysteria? Well, nothing can be done now. You lost both the war and Artsakh. Ask Aliyev - he’ll confirm it. That’s the reality, Pashinyan.

The former presidents conducted negotiations successfully, securing international recognition of Artsakh’s right to self-determination through a referendum. That right was clearly reflected in the joint statements of the leaders of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair countries.

They developed the economy through real action, not empty slogans — rebuilding from the ruins left after the collapse of the Soviet Union, like in the rest of the former USSR. But Armenia had even more to overcome: the devastation of an earthquake and its brutal aftermath. Still, the nuclear power plant was restored, gas supply was resumed, a pipeline was built from Iran, and much more was accomplished…

Unlike Pashinyan, who has doubled the national debt, throws festivals, and hands out bonuses to his team, all while the poverty rate — 24% in 2018 — hasn’t budged. In fact, the share of the population living below the poverty line has even increased… Budget spending has grown, yes, but most of it now goes toward servicing the state debt, and what’s left is devoured by inflation. What’s the problem, Pashinyan? Don’t want to ask Aliyev? Call Trump - he’ll confirm it too.

And as for debates, do you seriously believe that any of the former leaders would bother debating you just to prove they won the First Karabakh War, and that you lost the war in 2020? That under their leadership, Artsakh was Armenian, and now, because of you, it no longer is?

Would a mathematics professor debate a second-year hysterical student who insists that 2+2=5? Of course not. Agreeing to such a debate would mean losing all self-respect.
