HYBRID WAR AGAINST ARMENIA AND ARTSAKH: WHO IS INVOLVED?

23.11.2020

During the war in Artsakh, Armenia faced a two-front battle: external and internal.

On the external front, we were fighting against the Turkey-Azerbaijan-terrorist troika

Over the months leading up to the war, the military balance between Armenia and Azerbaijan had significantly shifted—particularly in the realm of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Azerbaijan gained undisputed air superiority, while the “Osa-AK” surface-to-air missile systems, touted by Pashinyan’s supporters as a reliable defense solution, proved virtually ineffective in countering aerial threats.

One of the factors behind Armenia’s defeat was Nikol Pashinyan’s poor management and absurd decisions. Some of these decisions were articulated by Movses Hakobyan during a well-known press conference.

As for the internal front and “attacks” from the rear, an organized group operated against Armenia and Artsakh. The key actors in this group included Nikol Pashinyan, Anna Hakobyan, Araik Harutyunyan, Artsrun Hovhannisyan, as well as government-funded NGOs loyal to Pashinyan, who mislead and manipulated public opinion with emotionally charged posts on Facebook — joined by false patriots and others.

Nikol Pashinyan: The key function of the person holding the office of Prime Minister of Armenia became, in effect, leading the country to capitulation under the deceptive slogan “We Will Win.” Few realize that he dragged Armenia into war through a disastrous foreign policy, the collapse of the Artsakh negotiation process, and a series of reckless provocations. At no point did he seriously attempt to manage or halt the war. By the third day of fighting, it was already clear that the balance of power was dramatically uneven — and yet he had the opportunity to stop the bloodshed then. He chose not to. Instead, he undermined the army from within, turning the organized defense effort into a chaotic struggle of volunteer detachments. Regular troops were deliberately kept away from the front lines. The mobilization process was deliberately disrupted. Real, coordinated efforts were replaced by empty performances. We ended up with “Kargin Hayko” [the ex-mayor of Yerevan] and the so-called “Etchmiadzin Mayor’s army of volunteers.” Nikol stalled and played for time — until the inevitable surrender of Shushi.

Anna Hakobyan: The role of Nikol Pashinyan’s wife was effectively the same as his—to steer the country toward capitulation. She became his eyes and ears within the Artsakh Command Headquarters and even issued instructions to military leadership. One of the most devastating blows to our army in Jabrayil came as a result of reckless orders from Anna Hakobyan and Nikol Pashinyan, who demanded a counterattack without proper justification—leading to severe losses. At the same time, Anna launched an aggressive campaign of so-called “military-patriotic propaganda” and staged the Erato group [translator’s note: a volunteer unit of women fighters], effectively mocking the concept of a professional standing army. Reports suggest she oversaw the release of casualty numbers, pressuring the Defense Ministry and the Defense Army to publish manipulated figures. She was also tasked with eroding trust in the regular army and vilifying the soldiers. Her public messages consistently included terms like “traitor” and “deserter,” which served to demoralize the public and psychologically prepare the nation for surrender.

Arayik Harutyunyan: This ever-smiling wheeler-dealer was tasked with masking the harsh realities of the war and personifying the “We Will Win” slogan. An attempt was made to paint him as a Rambo-like figure, yet instead of defending Shushi, he was busy filming videos there. Today, the former President of Artsakh laments that from day one, no one was willing to fight—everyone fled. Yet during the war, Arayik was staging media stunts, sipping coffee on the front lines and boasting about marching to Getashen and then to Baku. He bears no less responsibility for the capitulation than Nikol himself.

Artsrun Hovhannisyan: This liar and sycophant, who ingratiated himself with every new government, was charged with misleading and manipulating the Armenian people through propaganda. Like Goebbels, he lied every day—intentionally, consistently, and blatantly. Even when the enemy was already in Shushi, he reported that everything was under control, the military actions were ongoing, and that we would drive the Turks out of our town. This was done to confuse the people. When Jabrayil was about to fall, Artsrun claimed, “We are counterattacking.” As places like Kubatlu, Fizuli, and Zangilan fell, he dismissed these reports, downplaying them as mutual successes of both sides. When Hadrout fell, Artsrun called it “a tactical retreat.” And when Nikol finally surrendered Shushi, Artsrun lied again, pretending to be sick and unable to give a press conference. He knew full well that his boss was signing the capitulation. These four liars continued their deceit until the very end.

The rest of Nikol’s team had the same mission: to lie. From the very beginning, they claimed they were relying solely on the official reports from the Defense Ministry and Artsrun—statements that were blatant falsehoods. In addition, they declared martial law and restricted freedom of speech to prevent anyone from exposing the truth, raising the alarm, or trying to salvage the situation—despite Aliyev openly talking about capturing Shushi since September 27. Once Shushi fell, the slogan “We Will Win” instantly collapsed into capitulation. Nikol did what he did—and now he’s clinging to his position.

Our country had to face a hybrid war. The Turks were not our only adversaries. A Soros-Turkish group was operating from within. This raises a serious question: was Nikol simply reckless, blindly playing into the hands of the Soros-Turkish forces without understanding the consequences—or are we dealing with a cunning traitor? The truth will come to light after a change in power.
