“A criminal case has been launched on charges of high treason and espionage following the transfer of certain materials from Armenia’s National Archive to Azerbaijan. Law enforcement authorities have not disclosed the timeframe or specific contents of the materials in question.”

It is worth noting that, according to media reports, the National Security Service has detained several individuals from the National Archive’s leadership on suspicion of handing over materials to the enemy.

The Investigative Committee of Armenia confirmed the initiation of the criminal case to PastInfo.

The Investigative Committee of Armenia confirmed the initiation of the criminal case to PastInfo. “The criminal proceedings were initiated by the Chief Department for Investigating Crimes Against the State, Constitutional Order, and Public Security of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia, based on facts of high treason and the collection of other information by a representative of a foreign country intended to be used to the detriment of the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and external security of the Republic of Armenia. The case was launched under Articles 418.1 and 424.1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia,” the Investigative Committee stated.

According to the source, no employee of the National Archive has been detained or arrested in connection with these charges. However, there is reportedly one accused individual - apparently a former employee of the National Archive - though the Criminal Investigation Department has not yet initiated a separate case. Moreover, it remains unclear where and when the proceedings were launched, as well as which specific materials were transferred to Azerbaijan.
