Anna Hakobyan

Biography

Anna Hakobyan (Arm. Աննա Վաչիկի Հակոբյան), born on February 1, 1978, is an Armenian journalist and public figure. She is the editor-in-chief of Haykakan Zhamanak newspaper and the partner of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan (they are not officially married).

In 2000, Hakobyan graduated from the Faculty of Journalism at Yerevan State University.

She met Nikol Pashinyan during her university years. Pashinyan’s career has taken him from an agent of the National Security Service under the guise of a journalist and an opposition politician to a statesman, becoming Prime Minister of Armenia following the "velvet revolution" staged by Serzh Sargsyan.

Following the events of March 1, 2008, and up until 2011, Anna Hakobyan served as editor-in-chief of Haykakan Zhamanak newspaper. She returned to the position in 2012.

Hakobyan was an active participant in Armenia’s "Velvet Revolution". After her partner, Nikol Pashinyan, assumed the office of Prime Minister, she became the de facto First Lady of Armenia. Today, her primary focus is charitable work. In July 2018, she founded the My Step Charitable Foundation.

She is also the initiator of the Women for Peace movement.

During the 2020 war, Hakobyan formed a squad of 13 women, named Erato, to take part in military operations.

In September 2023, she participated in the Kyiv Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen.
