The former president said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI wanted to make sure that that man was capable of bloodshed. I understood that in a few moments.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Murazi questions the sincerity of this explanation:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Why would Sargsyan need to be physically present to determine whether Pashinyan was \u201cready to shed blood\u201d? Wouldn\u2019t such assessments fall to the relevant agencies?<\/li>\n<li>How is it possible that a president\u2014who commanded the full arsenal of law-enforcement and security bodies (the Prosecutor\u2019s Office, the Police, the National Security Service, the Army) \u2014had not already analyzed his political opponent\u2019s intentions?<\/li>\n<li>And why was a personal meeting required to \u201ctest\u201d Pashinyan, effectively placing Sargsyan on equal footing with him?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>According to Murazi, a close analysis of those days reveals a fundamentally different reason for the meeting:<\/p>\n<p><strong>It was initiated by Pashinyan.<\/strong> The meeting took place on his terms - at the venue, with the agenda, and in the format he dictated. This instantly elevated the status of an opposition figure who had received only 7% of the vote in the 2017 elections.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A symbolic gesture.<\/strong> By appearing at the Marriott, Sargsyan effectively acknowledged Pashinyan\u2019s 7% support as politically equal to his own position as prime minister.
