\nThis boldly refutes decades of established global historiography, which clearly states that Germany invaded Poland on September 1, 1939\u2014prompting Britain and France to declare war on Germany<\/p>\n
But according to Artsrun Hovhannisyan, these are mere myths. In his version of history, both Germany and the Soviet Union were responsible for starting the war.\nFurthermore, according to Artsrun Hovhannisyan, at the initial stage of Hitler\u2019s invasion of the Soviet Union, the latter actually held the upper hand in terms of both manpower and military equipment. However, it was the exclusive quality of German military minds that secured their victories in the early phase of the war. According to Hovhannisyan, Germany had \u201cthe most advanced military minds.\u201d In his words, when it comes to military brilliance, \u201cGermany is the first that comes to mind\u201d \u2014 says Petros\u2019s friend Artsrun.<\/span><\/p>\nAccording to him, the Soviet Union won the war solely thanks to its overwhelming manpower and the American lend-lease support \u2014 sugar, uniform fabric, canned meat, Studebakers, and airplanes. As for the famed T-34 tanks, Hovhannisyan claimed they only became truly effective after being equipped with main guns based on American models.<\/span><\/p>\nAccording to Artsrun, the major operations conducted by the Soviet Army were far from exceptional \u2014 neither the Battle of Moscow, nor Stalingrad, nor the lifting of the Leningrad siege, the Battle of Kursk, or the Dnieper crossing impressed him. In his view, none of these matched the brilliance of German military strategy. The only operation that Hovhannisyan considers somewhat noteworthy \u2014 and occasionally mentions to his students \u2014 is Operation Bagration, which led to the liberation of Belarus. However, he emphasizes that even in that case, the Soviet command enjoyed a ninefold superiority in manpower and equipment. Thus, even that operation, by his assessment, does not qualify as outstanding.<\/span><\/p>\nAnd finally, he claims that, unlike the Americans, the Soviet Union gained absolutely nothing from the victory. Nothing at all, he insists\u2014disregarding the Soviet influence over Eastern Europe, ignoring Kaliningrad, the Kuril Islands, Karelia\u2014while these are just the most obvious and well-known gains.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nThe problem is that this overt Germanophile and newly emerged \u201chistorian-thinker\u201d of Nikol Pashinyan\u2019s Armenia now heads the country\u2019s military academy. And that\u2019s considered normal\u2014as long as Erdogan\u2019s apologist, Pashinyan, remains in power.<\/span><\/p>\nP<\/span>.<\/span>S<\/span>P.S. A delegation led by Armenia\u2019s Defense Minister Suren Papikyan has left for a working visit to Germany.
